Theatre Moments Through My Lens
There is something truly magical to me about photographing live theatre; the lights, the emotion, the costumes, the stories unfolding on stage. Over the years, I've had the honor of capturing so many unforgettable performances, but a few stand out in a big way.
Of course, anything my own son is in will always hold a special place in my heart. I've photographed Logan in The Sound of Music, Oliver, High School Musical Jr., Elf Jr., Shrek Jr., Into the Woods Jr., The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and several others. Each one has been special. But seaussical will always be one of the most meaningful. Not only was Logan on stage, but I had the joy of co-directing the show. All of the kids in that show will hold such a special place in my heart and I loved capturing them all in the show. I truly loved them all. Watching them grow, pour their hearts into their roles, grow in their confidence, it was a full-circle experience that I will always remember.
Southern Wesleyan University's productions have also been some of my favorites to photograph. Their lighting design is always incredible, and I especially love photographing shows with dramatic lighting. Singing in the Rain stands out in particular, especially during the title number. The way that the stage was lit really hit the mark. And this year's production of Anastasia? Absolutely magical! The dreamy sets, stunning costumes, and beautiful lighting was an absolute dream to photograph.
Theatre photography will always be one of my passions. They are the culmination of months of work both on stage and off. It's unpredictable, emotional, and full of fleeting moments that happen once and then are gone unless someone captures them. I'm so grateful to be that someone.
